ISTANBUL, Turkey – Three more U.S. wrestlers weighed in and received their draws for the men’s freestyle competition at the 2011 World Wrestling Championships in Saturday.

2004 Olympic champion Cael Sanderson (State College, Pa./Nittany Lion WC) will compete at 84 kg/185 lbs. His opening opponent is Alejandro Gallardo Ocampo of Mexico. Gallardo was fifth in the 2011 Pan American Championships.

Sanderson returned to competition this spring after almost seven years in retirement. He was a 2003 World silver medalist and won a University World title in 2000.

He serves as the head wrestling coach for Penn State University, which won the 2011 NCAA team title. Sanderson is a legend in American wrestling, the only undefeated four-time NCAA Div. I champion ever during his career at Iowa State.

One of the athletes who Sanderson has coached will also be competing on Saturday, Jake Varner (State College, Pa./Nittany Lion WC) at 96 kg/211.5 lbs. In the first round, Varner will wrestle Krassimir Kochev of Bulgaria.

Varner was ninth in the 2009 World Championships. He was a two-time NCAA champion at Iowa State, and wrestled for Sanderson there when he won his first NCAA title. He trains now with Sanderson in State College.

He will face 2004 Olympic bronze medalist Krassimir Kochev of Bulgaria in his first match. Varner defeated Kochev in the finals of the Ion Corneanu Memorial in Romania in July.

The other U.S. competitor on Saturday will be Reese Humphrey (Columbus, Ohio/New York AC) at 60 kg/132 lbs. Humphrey will compete against Guillermo Torres Cervantes of Mexico in his opening bout. Torres was seventh in the 2011 Pan American Championships.

Humphrey is wrestling in his first World Championships. He has won two University World medals in his career, including a silver medal and a bronze medal. Humphrey was a NCAA runner-up for Ohio State and a two-time All-American.
