Gray, Bernard, Simmons receive draws for World Championships for Friday

ISTANBUL, Turkey – The final two U.S. women’s freestyle wrestlers and the first U.S. men’s freestyle wrestler have weighed in and received their opening draw for the World Wrestling Championships on Friday.

The women’s freestyle competition concludes Friday with the highest two weight classes.

Competing in her second World Championships at 67 kg/147.5 lbs. is Adeline Gray (Colorado Springs, Colo./New York AC), who will face Luozhuoma Xi of China.

Gray was fifth in the 2009 World Championships. She was a 2008 Junior World champion and a 2011 Junior World silver medalist.

2008 Olympian Ali Bernard (New Ulm, Minn./Gator WC) will face Jenny Fransson of Sweden in her opening bout at 72 kg/158.5 lbs.

Fransson was fifth at the 2010 World Championships and ninth in the 2008 Olympic Games. She won two medals at the Junior World Championships.

Bernard placed fifth in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China. She also competed at the 2009 Senior World Championships. Bernard won two Junior World titles earlier in her career.

The men’s freestyle competition also starts on Friday with the lightest weight class at 55 kg/121 lbs. 

Entering his first World Championships is Nick Simmons (Corvallis, Ore./Sunkist Kids). He will open against Marcel Ewald of Germany.

Ewald was second in the 2007 European Championships and third in the 2010 European Championships.
