2000 U.S. OLYMPIC WRESTLING TRIALS, SET FOR JUNE 22-24 IN DALLAS, SETS ATTENDANCE RECORD WITH OVER 31,000 TICKETS SOLD; PLENTY OF EXCELLENT SEATS REMAIN AVAILABLE FOR ALL SESSIONS 
  The U.S. Olympic Wrestling Team Trials, scheduled for June 22-24 at Reunion Arena in Dallas, Texas, has already established a record for ticket sales at a U.S. Olympic Wrestling Trials event. 
 Through June 7th, a total of 31,331 tickets have been sold for the three days of action, according to event organizers with the Dallas/Fort Worth Regional Sports Commission. 
 The previous record for attendance at an Olympic Wrestling Trials was 24,578, set by the organizers of the 1996 U.S. Olympic Freestyle Team Trials, held at the Spokane Arena in Spokane, Wash. 
 "The city of Dallas has stepped up and shown that it truly supports Olympic sports," said Paul Winston, Executive Director of the Dallas/Fort Worth Regional Sports Commission. "We are proud of the efforts of our local volunteers and community leaders, who have worked tirelessly in partnership with USA Wrestling to promote the Wrestling Trials." 
 "USA Wrestling is excited about the tremendous interest that has been generated for the 2000 U.S. Olympic Wrestling Team Trials," said Jim Scherr, Executive Director of USA Wrestling. "It is our goal to host the greatest Olympic Wrestling Trials ever held. The attendance record shows how a team marketing effort between a National Governing Body and a local organizing committee can be a great success." 
 Excellent seat locations remain available in all price ranges for each of the three days of the wrestling action, which will be held on Thursday, June 22, Friday, June 23 and Saturday, June 24.

 Many of the early ticket sales have come from visitors from across the nation who will travel to Dallas to attend the Trials. With two weeks to go before the U.S. Olympic Wrestling Trials begin, ticket sales from the Dallas area and across Texas are expected to pick up dramatically. 
 Organizers wish to challenge all area residents to order their tickets today and make plans to participate in the excitement of the Olympic movement. 
 "We want to shatter the attendance records, and show the world how much Dallas loves Olympic sports," said Winston. "This is the best way for Dallas residents to participate in the Olympic dream, and show their support for the U.S. team that will compete in Sydney, Austalia later this summer." 
 Up for grabs are 16 berths on the U.S. Olympic Wrestling Team, including eight athletes in freestyle wrestling and eight athletes in Greco-Roman wrestling. This is considered the purest and most intense of all Olympic Trials events, as only the champion at each weight class qualifies for the U.S. team.
