OKLAHOMA WINS CADET FREESTYLE DUALS, DEFEATING CALIFORNIA IN THE FINALS, 34-20 

Oklahoma defeated California, 34-20, to claim the team title at the 2000 Cadet National Freestyle Duals, held in Pueblo, Colo., June 10. California had been the Greco-Roman team champion the previous day.

California started with dominance, winning the first three matches. However, Oklahoma rebounded with five straight wins and never trailed again. Claiming pins in the gold-medal dual for Oklahoma were Derrick Fleenor at 112 pounds and Chris Finn at 242 pounds. Scoring a technical fall for Oklahoma was Justin Sizemore at 132 pounds.

Kansas placed third, defeating Indiana Silver 32-21 in the bronze-medal dual meet. Claiming fifth was Ohio, with a 36-18 win over Georgia. Indiana Gold finished seventh, stopping Utah 41-9. Placing ninth was Iowa, with a 30-24 victory over New Mexico. A total of 12 teams participated in the freestyle competition. As a first year event, the Cadet National Duals were a success, and is expected to grow into one of the most popular youth team events in the nation.
