COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo – The U.S. World Teams in all three Olympic styles will be conducting their final domestic training camps during the last half of August, in preparation for the 2011 World Wrestling Championships in Istanbul, Turkey, Sept. 12-18.

The U.S. World Teams in men’s freestyle, women’s freestyle and Greco-Roman will all be in training at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, prior to leaving for overseas for acclimation camps in Europe.

The U.S. Women’s Freestyle World Team will conduct its training camp from August 15 – September 2.

“We went to Poland to compete and throughout the summer, we established a few areas for the team and each individual to focus on and clean up. At this camp, there will be a few areas for each athlete and the team to work on. We are going in with the right mindset. We have the right athletes who can get the job done. We have a coaching staff that works well together and is on the same page. We will focus on what we need to do on a daily basis to prepare for Istanbul,” said National Women’s Coach Terry Steiner.

The U.S. Women’s World Team features six athletes with previous World Championships or Olympics experience, including 2008 World champion Clarissa Chun at 48 kg/105.5 lbs. and 2010 World silver medalist Elena Pirozhkova at 63 kg/138.75 lbs.

The women’s freestyle team will complete its international training in Germany, September 5-11. The U.S. women freestyle wrestlers will compete in Istanbul, Turkey, September 14-16.

The U.S. Men’s Freestyle World Team will conduct its training camp from August 15-27.

“Essentially, we are five weeks away. This is our final hard push for our conditioning and competition phase of preparation. It’s a time to scout our opponents and look back at how we competed in July to fine tune things technically and tactically,” said National Freestyle Coach Zeke Jones.

The U.S. Men’s Freestyle World Team features three athletes with previous World Championships or Olympic experience, including 2004 Olympic champion and 2003 World silver medalist Cael Sanderson at 84 kg/185 lbs. and 2009 World bronze medalist Tervel Dlagnev at 120 kg/264.5 lbs.

The men’s freestyle team will complete its international training in Belarus, September 5-13. The U.S. men’s freestyle wrestlers will compete in Istanbul, Turkey, September 16-18.

The U.S. Greco-Roman team will conduct its training camp from August 18-27.

“What we are trying to achieve with this final training camp is for each individual to refine their specific needs on their feet and in par terre,” said National Greco-Roman Coach Steve Fraser. “We have mapped out individual plans for each wrestler from what we identified from the Pytlasinski Tournament in Poland. That will be our priority.”

The U.S. Greco-Roman World Team features six athletes with previous World Championships or Olympic experience, including 2002 World champion and three-time World medalist Dremiel Byers at 120 kg/264.5 lbs., 2006 and 2007 World bronze medalist Justin Lester at 66 kg/145.5 lbs. and 2005 World bronze medalist Justin Ruiz at 96 kg/211.5 lbs.

The U.S. Greco-Roman World Team will complete its international training in Greece, August 31 – September 9. The U.S. Greco-Roman wrestlers will compete in Istanbul, Turkey, September 12-14.
