BUCHAREST, Romania – The final four U.S. Greco-Roman wrestlers have weighed in and received their draws at the Junior World Championships. They will compete on Wednesday.
2010 Junior World bronze medalist Ellis Coleman (/Colorado Springs, Colo. (New York AC) drew Akreme Boudjemline of Algeria in the opening bout at 66 kg/145.5 lbs.
“A lot of people are trying to stay away from Ellis. I have had a lot of foreign coaches come up to me and think he is the man to beat. If he wrestles well, he could be the man to beat,†said National Greco-Roman Developmental Coach Ike Anderson.
At 120 kg/264.5 lbs., Toby Erickson (East Helena, Montana/Bronco WC) has drawn Babak Dezhbani Imchech of Iran. Erickson competed last year for Boise State.
“Toby Erikson has a good draw. If this kid gets off to a good start, he can do very well here,†said Anderson.
Mike Fuenffinger (Hibbing, Minn./Minnesota Storm) will battle Denis Menekse of Germany in his first bout at 55 kg/121 lbs.
At 84 kg/185 lbs., Joel Bauman (Kerkhoven, Minn./Minnesota Storm) opens with Ruslan Kamilov of Uzbekistan. Bauman competes for the Univ. of Minnesota.
On the first day of action Tuesday, the U.S. did not qualify any athletes for the medal rounds. Anderson has hopes for a stronger effort on Wednesday.
“We still have a shot to do better tomorrow. We still would like to win one or two medals here this year,†he said.
