TERRY AND MICHELLE BRANDS HAVE BABY GIRL SYDNEY ON JUNE 28 U.S. Freestyle Olympic Team member Terry Brands and his wife Michelle, welcomed a baby girl, Sydney Jae, into their family Wednesday, June 28 about 10:00 pm. Baby Sydney weighed in at 7 lbs. 8 oz.Terry Brands weighed in at 127.75 pounds last weekend at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials in Dallas, Texas and won a berth to the Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia.
Brands won the Freestyle World Championships in 1993 and 1995 and won World Cup titles in 1994 and 1995. He is a three-time freestyle national champion and is a five-time World Team Trials champion.
On Monday, Brands accepted the head assistant coaching position at the University of Nebraska. Nebraska is rebuilding its staff under new head coach Mark Manning, formerly at Northern Iowa.
Prior to accepting the position, Brands was an assistant coach at the University of Iowa for three years. He also served as as the volunteer assistant and as the head strength and training coach for the Hawkeyes in previous years.
Brands and his twin brother Tom, were standout wrestlers for the University of Iowa in the early 1990s. Terry won three Big Ten titles, was a three-time NCAA All-American and a two-time NCAA Champion. He held an overall dual record of 137-7-0.
Terry and Michelle also have a fifteen-month-old son named Nelson.
