Drexel Wrestling Head Coach Matt Azevedo has announced his first hires since taking over, naming Zack Sheaffer and Todd Schavrien assistant coaches.

Sheaffer comes to Drexel after serving as both an assistant coach and the interim head coach at Clarion University. He oversaw the Division I wrestling program at the school, managed nine summer camps and was in charge of recruiting. Prior to his appointment at Clarion, Sheaffer was an assistant coach at Limestone College and was a counselor and technician at the Pittsburgh Wrestling Club. On the mat, Sheaffer was a heavyweight All-American in 2009 as an undergraduate at Pittsburgh. He was a four-year letterwinner, a team captain and won more than 100 career matches. Sheaffer was a Freestyle and an Academic All-American in 2008. He graduated with a degree in political science.

Schavrien is a recent graduate of the University of Missouri. While at Missouri, he was the Big XII Champion in 2011 and was an All-American at 141 pounds. Schavrien was a captain as a senior and was a three-time NCAA qualifier. He transferred to Missouri after spending his first two seasons at Arizona State. Schavrien, a Poway, Calif. native, was a two-time High School All-American.

“I am very excited to announce that Zack Sheaffer and Todd Schavrien will be joining the Drexel wrestling coaching staff,” Azevedo said.” Having the experience of two All-Americans in the room will be a great asset to the team. Their energy and work ethic will add a boost to recruiting and the overall progress of the Drexel Wrestling program.”
