MARQUETTE – Thirty-nine United States Olympic Education Center athletes have been named to the USOEC All-Academic team for the 2011 winter semester for their performance in the classroom.

The All-Academic team recognizes athletes who earned a grade-point average of 3.0 or higher in their studies at Northern Michigan University.

Freestyle wrestlers who are recognized are graduate student Mary Kelly (Mahomet, Ill.); seniors Laura Conway (Traverse City, Mich.), Amber Miracle (Berlin, Wis.) and Jenna Pavlik (); juniors Melissa Apodaca (Chugach, Alaska), Schuyler Brown (Montpelier, Va.) and Moriah Fernandez (Morgan Hill, Calif.); sophomores Cassandra Schmidt (Missoula, Mont.) and Carlene Sluberski (Fredonia, N.Y.); and freshman Lilia Gudzyuk (Auburn, Wash.).

Greco-Roman wrestlers who made the team include senior Paul Tellgren (Anoka, Minn.); juniors Aaron Briggs (Tuscon, Ariz.) and Ryan Hope (Carol Stream, Ill.); freshman Alan Alvarez (Miami, Fla.), Joey Denova (Fortson, Ga.), Ethan Dondlinger (Slinger, Wis.) and Caleb Smith (Patoka, Ind.)

Weightlifters named to the team include graduate student Breanne Carlson (Peshtigo, Wis.); seniors Sara Cowles (Daytona Beach, Fla.), Allie Henry (River Falls, Wis.) and Steve Jarvis (Niagara, Wis.); junior Robin Feuerman (Altamonte Springs, Fla.); sophomores Max Cretcher (Rochester Hills, Mich.), Matt Fraser (Colchester, Vt.) and Chris Lenahen (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.); freshman Dean Beyers (Camas, Wash.) and Patricia Park (Rochester Hills, Mich.).

Speedskaters named to the team are graduate student Levi Kirkpatrick (Hills, Iowa); seniors Tamara Frederick (Park Ridge, Ill.) and Anthony Lobello (Tallahassee, Fla.); juniors Dan Fiorenza (Wausau, Wis.), Kelsey Schiel (Midland, Mich.) and Barry Winslow (Midland, Mich.); sophomores Christopher Creveling (Kintersville, Pa.) and Kimberly Derrick (Grand Rapids, Mich.); freshman Sara Burg (Alpena, Mich.), Alaina Fiorenza (Wausau, Wis.) and Jordan Malone (Denton, Texas).

Finishing off the team is freshman boxer Mikaela Mayers (West Hills, Calif.).

Weightlifter Carlson, speedskaters Kirkpatrick and Malone, wrestlers Apodaca and Smith, completed the semester with a 4.0 GPA.
