Norwich University is pleased to announce that Mark Adkins has accepted the position of sports information director effective July 1.

Adkins has been the Sports Information Director at Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa, since August 2000 where he managed sports information for 19 varsity athletic programs and was instrumental in the successful marketing of the college’s athletic programs and accomplishments through traditional and social media.

Active in Collegiate Sports Information Directors of America (CoSida), Adkins serves as the national vice-chair of the Fred Stabley Writing Contest and on the Academic All-American National Committee as Director of New Media.

“We are thrilled that Mark and his family will be joining the Norwich community,” said Karen McGrath, vice president of enrollment management. “He brings great experience and talent to the position, and I look to him to work with his team to continue to advance Norwich athletics and to further tell the stories of our student-athletes.”

Norwich University sponsors 20 NCAA Division III varsity athletic programs including national championship hockey programs. Adkins will facilitate communication between the teams and the sports reporting media.

“My wife, Terri, daughter, Callie, and I look forward to joining the Norwich family,” Adkins said. “In looking back at the last 11 years, Wartburg College has been tremendous in regards to working with staff and administration, in giving me and my family so many wonderful opportunities. I, now, am excited for the future at another great institution.”

McGrath personally and professionally thanks Charlie Crosby ’63 for serving as the interim director for the 2010-11 academic year upon the departure of Christian Anderson in September 2010.

“Charlie stepped up in true Norwich fashion at a crucial time in the athletic season, provided leadership to the department and not only maintained sports information but advanced Norwich Athletics,” McGrath said.

Crosby, who will be entering his seventh year as a member of the department, will still be on the staff next year as the Associate SID.

Derek Dunning will return for his second year at Norwich as an assistant SID and Matt Albury will return for his second year as the SID intern.
