The wrestling was outstanding, but the setting was absolutely incredible when the United States defeated Russia 5-2 in a freestyle wrestling dual meet held in Times Square in New York City on May 5.
The event was part of the Beat the Streets Gala, which raised $1 million for wrestling programs in New York City.
Two of the world’s greatest wrestling photographers, John Sachs of Tech-Fall.com and Larry Slater, were on hand to capture the visual images of this historic occasion. They not only shot great pictures of the wrestling action on the mat, but also captured the amazing surroundings where man’s oldest sport was displayed for the very first time. Also included were the many celebrities who attended the event.

U.S. Olympic Team.org sent veteran reporter Aimee Berg to the USA vs. Russia dual meet, where she wrote stories and took photos. Her photo gallery, posted on the U.S. Olympic Committee website, captured the unique setting of Times Square, as well as numerous of the celebrities on hand to catch the action.

It was a great day for wrestling and for the Beat the Streets program.
