Applications are now available for athletes and coaches who wish to participate in the FILA Cadet Pan American Championships, set for Campeche, Mexico Aug. 5-7.
Brian Giffin, the President and Executive Director of Beat the Streets-Chicago, is the team leader for the event and will manage the application process.
The Coaches Apprentice Program allow four coaches to assist with the trip to Mexico, consisting of a head and an assistant coach for both freestyle and Greco-Roman. This is a great opportunity for coaches to get international experience working with national-caliber athletes.
“The coaches selected will work alongside one another to ensure a quality experience for not only the coaching staff, but the athletes representing USA Wrestling,†said Manager of National Coaches Education Program, Cody Bickley. “This opportunity is similar to the previous CAP trips with regard to coaches will pay their own way.â€

Athletes wanting to participate must also apply to compete in Campeche, Mexico. Athletes will be considered based upon their success in major USA Wrestling age-group competitions, as well as their high school achievements. The application can be found here and is due May 7.
“The opportunity to work with so many of our talented athletes and mentor coaches is a lifelong mission and objective,†said Giffin. “It’s an honor and a privilege for me to lead our efforts in the Pam American Championships.â€
Coaches and athletes participating in the Cadet Pan American Championships will be responsible for the costs of the tour.
Last year, the United States won the team title in Greco-Roman and placed second as a team in freestyle at the FILA Cadet Pan American Championships held in Manaus, Brazil. The U.S. had three FILA Cadet Pan American freestyle champions and three FILA Cadet Pan American Greco-Roman champions.
“I look forward to leading a positive, energetic and focused US FILA Cadet team,†said Giffin. “I anticipate great success and sportsmanship from our athletes and coaches.â€
