About the cause (from the causes.com page)
A committee today has decided, for the most absurd reasons (most of which really don't hold much water) to eliminate four varsity sports at Brown.
They claim that it is not an issue of money, where the sports are concerned but rather an attempt to shorten the scope of the athletic department and focus on improving other teams' competitiveness in the League. That being said, what sense does it make to drop a team that is already competitive within the Ivy League and on a national level?
I cannot speak for the other teams, but I can personally attest that the budget for the wrestling team is about $200,000 out of the $13.2 million dollar budget and we raise over half ourselves. We have our own facility, strong alumni support, and a long history at Brown.
In a meeting today, it was revealed that, to actually make a significant improvement to the budget, 18 teams would need to be cut... and no one wants that.
Support Brown Sports. Save Brown Wrestling. And Thanks for all the Help.
P.S. Rather than donations, let’s try to flood Ruth Simmons' and Richard Spies' inboxes with as many emails as possible!
