Illinois' Zane Richards named OW in FILA Cadet Nationals freestyle competition

AKRON, Ohio – Zane Richards of Illinois continued his run of success in USA Wrestling events.
Richards downed Minnesota’s Sam Brancale 1-0, 6-0 in the FILA Cadet Nationals freestyle finals at 58 kg/127.75 lbs. on Saturday at the University of Akron.
Richards was named Outstanding Wrestler. He placed second in the Greco-Roman competition on Thursday.
FILA Cadet Nationals champions in each weight class in Akron, with the exception of 125.5 kg kg/275.5 lbs., qualify for the FILA Cadet World Championships in Szombethely, Hungary, on Aug. 25-28.
Washington’s Jordan Rogers and Pennsylvania’s Brooks Black repeated as champions in the FILA Cadet freestyle competition.
Rogers won the FILA Cadet Nationals Greco-Roman title on Thursday. He won a silver medal at the 2010 Youth Olympic Games in Singapore.
Illinois’ Sam Brooks and Michigan’s Adam Coon also were double champions after winning FILA Cadets in Greco-Roman this week.
Nebraska’s Thomas Gilman, second in this event last year, won the title at 54 kg/119 lbs. He beat Michigan’s Jacob Schmitt 2-1, 2-1 in the finals. Gilman won Cadet Nationals last summer in Fargo, N.D.
