Jenna Burkert wins USOEC Athlete of the Month Award

Jenna Burkert, a senior at Marquette Senior High School and a member of USA Wrestling’s women’s freestyle program won the U.S. Olympic Education Center’s Athlete of the Month award for March.

Burkert had an impressive month of competition in March.

She placed third at the Klippan Lady Open in Klippan Sweden, March 6. On her way to the medal, Burkert defeated 2007 European bronze medalist Emese Barka of Hungary and two-time World medalist Agata Pietryzk of Poland.

Burkert also won her second straight USA Wrestling Girls Junior Folkstyle National title in Oklahoma City, March 26. She pinned Krista Revelle of the Kansas Krusaders at 5:46 in the finals at 139 pounds.

Her most recent accomplishment was placing fourth at the 2011 U.S. Senior Nationals in Cleveland, Ohio at 59 kg/130 lbs. on April 9. Burkert was the 2010 ASICS Women’s High School Wrestler of the Year, and she competed in the 2010 Youth Olympic Games.
