U.S. OLYMPIC GRECO-ROMAN TEAM TO COMPETE AT PODDOUBNY TOURNAMENT IN MOSCOW, RUSSIA, AUG. 4-8The U.S. Olympic Greco-Roman wrestling team will travel to Moscow, Russia to compete in the Poddoubny tournament, Aug. 4-8. It will be the first time all members of the team that will represent the U.S. in Sydney will come together since the U.S. Olympic Team Trials in Dallas, Texas, June 22-24.
The team will be led by U.S. Olympic Greco-Roman head coach Dan Chandler of Minneapolis, Minn. and assistant coach Rob Hermann of Pensacola, Fla. along with National Greco-Roman coach Steve Fraser of Colorado Springs, Colo. The competition in Moscow will be used as key preparation for what lies ahead at the Olympics. According to Fraser, countries from all over the world are expected to compete at Poddoubny to prepare as well. He said Russia, a long-time dominant force in Greco-Roman wrestling, may have nearly 10 teams competing in the tournament. The U.S. Greco-Roman team will hold one segment of training camp in the United States when they return from Russia. The camp will be held at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. Aug. 14-26. Other members of the National Greco-Roman Team and other talented training partners will attend Training Camp along with the Olympic team members. Another segment of training camp will be held in Canberra, Australia before the Games begin in September.
