Ramie Mohlman, 49, a 2006 Sombo World silver medalist and a qualifier for the 2004 U.S. Olympic Team Trials in Greco-Roman, was shot and killed in Riviera Beach, Fla. on Sunday.

The Palm Beach Post reported today that Michael Monahan, 65, shot and killed both Mohlman and Matthew Lee Vittum, 43, in an apparent dispute over the ownership of a boat.

Mohlman made national news is wrestling in 2004, when he qualified for the U.S. Olympic Team Trials in Greco-Roman wrestling at the age of 42. 

Mohlman was born with congenital heart disease. He wrestled in high school in Michigan and competed at Eastern Michigan Univ. He did not compete for 20 years until he made a comeback in 2003. He qualified and competed at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials in Greco-Roman in Indianapolis, Ind. in 2004 at 55 kg/121 lbs.

Mohlman continued competing, also getting involved in Sombo, a combat sport in whiche contestants wear a jacket. Sombo was added as an international style of wrestling in 2006. Mohlman won the 2006 U.S. Sombo Nationals held in North Palm Beach, Fla. At the 2006 Sombo World Championships in Antalya, Turkey, he won a silver medal at 55 kg/121 lbs.

Mohlman has also served as a wrestling coach in his community in Florida for many years. According to the Palm Beach Post, he was a coach at Palm Beach Lakes High School.
