With over 1,100 wrestlers entered in the Cadet and Junior Divisions at the Asics/USA Wrestling Folkstyle Nationals this weekend at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls, Iowa, it was expected that the competition would be as deep as ever.

While the competition was deep, several wrestlers reclaimed positions atop the podium as the Junior Division wrapped up on Saturday afternoon.

Darshawn Sharp of Georgia, Freddie Rodriguez of Michigan, Nick Wanzek and Jake Short of Minnesota, Jahwon Akui of Illinois and Cody Krumwiede of Iowa claimed championships for the second time in their careers.

Sharp had to best Hawai'i's Cassidy Oshiro in overtime to claim the championship at 112 pounds 6-4. Rodriguez won the championship at 119 pounds after finishing as a Triple Crown winner last year at the Junior level.

Rodriguez beat Sharp's twin brother, Marshawn, in the finals 12-7. The match went back and forth before Rodriguez broke it open with three third-period takedowns.

Short won for the first time at the Junior level, edging Iowa's Brandon Sorensen 6-5 in the finals at 140 pounds.

Wanzek moved up from the Cadet Division, where he was previously a champion, to earn a major decision in finals over Colton Duhr of Kansas at 152 pounds.

Akui beat last year's Cadet Folkstyle Champion and Cadet Freestyle champion Glenn Climmons of Georgia 7-4 at 171 pounds.

Krumwiede has been used to winning in Cedar Falls, something he'll have to get used to after signing with host Northern Iowa. Krumwiede gave up the first takedown at heavyweight to Minnesota's Isaac Eichmann, but dominated the rest of the way, picking up a 15-3 major decision.

Other notable winners included Austin Marsden's fall over Michael Sojka at 215 pounds in an all-Illinois final.

Gage Harrah of Illinois won the championship at 189 pounds after finishing fourth at 285 pounds a year ago.

All the winners in each division have captured the first leg of the prestigious Triple Crown, which is awarded to winners of all three wrestling styles -- Folkstyle, Freestyle and Greco-Roman. The Freestyle & Greco-Roman championships will take place in Fargo in July.
