Ukraine, Azerbaijan each win three women’s titles at European Championships

DORTMUND, Germany – Ukraine and Azerbaijan each had three individual champions at the 2011 European Wrestling Championships in women’s freestyle.

Capturing gold medals for Ukraine were Yulia Blahinya at 51 kg/112.25 lbs., Yulia Ostapchuk at 63 kg/138.75 lbs. and Katerina Burmistrova (Ukraine) at 72 kg/158.5 lbs.

Ukraine also had two silver medalists, for a very strong team finish.

Azerbaijan’s three individual champions were Maria Stadnyk at 48 kg/105.5 lbs., Yulia Ratkevich at 59 kg/130 lbs. and Nadeshda Sementsova at 67 kg/147.5 lbs.

The other individual champions was Ida-Theres Nerell of Sweden at 55 kg/121 lbs.

Sementsova was the only 2010 European champion to repeat this year.
 
World power Russia had no champions and finished with three bronze medalists.

The tournament will conclude with Greco-Roman, which will be held on Saturday and Sunday.
