John Smith (Oklahoma State) has been named the Big 12 Wrestling Coach of the Year for the ninth time by a vote of the Conference coaches. Smith led the Cowboys to their 10th Big 12 Championship title this year with a 17-point victory over Missouri in Ames, Iowa.

The Big 12 wrestling crown was the 10th for the Cowboys and second in a row. Led by Smith, the Cowboys claimed one national title and a runner-up at this year's NCAA Championships. Jordan Oliver, who finished second in the Dan Hodge Trophy voting, capped off a perfect season (29-0) by winning the NCAA title at 133 pounds. Oliver's teammate, Clayton Foster, earned the silver medal in the 197-pound class.

Smith has coached 92 NCAA All-Americas and notched five national championships at OSU. He captured this year's Conference title despite OSU having the youngest lineup (five freshmen and a sophomore) in the league. The Cowboys placed fourth at the NCAA Wrestling Championships this season and earned three All-America honors (Foster, Oliver and Jamal Parks).

In 2010-11, Oklahoma State posted a dual record of 15-2-1, including a 10-2-1 record versus top 25 opponents. Smith is OSU's all-time winningest coach with a 311-46-6 career record and is the only coach in OSU history to hit the 300-win mark for his career.
