GIBSON JOINS USA WRESTLING AS MARKETING/EDITORIAL COORDINATORAndre Gibson of Newton, Iowa has joined USA Wrestling's national staff as a Marketing/Communications coordinator. He will work in USA Wrestling's Development department.
Gibson joins USA Wrestling after serving over a year as an associate director for the International Wrestling Museum in Newton, Iowa. Gibson was also the Director of Promotions and a staff writer for W.I.N. Magazine, a national wrestling publication based in Newton.
He will intially be working on a variety of projects for USA Wrestling in both the marketing and editorial areas of the Development department including content creation for TheMat.com and advertising sales for USA Wrestler. He is expected to specialize in one of these areas after a few months with USA Wrestling.
Gibson has a variety of experiences and skills in both marketing and wrestling journalism. He served as the Event Director for the Dan Gable Classic in 1999 and 2000, a major international dual meet between Team USA and a foreign wrestling power that is held each year in Iowa. He has been actively involved in the marketing, promotion and fundraising activities of the International Wrestling Museum, as well as some marketing responsibilities with W.I.N. Magazine.
In addition to his writing assignments for W.I.N., Gibson was a radio talk show host for the "Saturday Night Slam" show on 107.1 FM, "The Jock."
He has a strong wrestling background as a coach and administrator. He served as head wrestling coach at the Princeton City School District in Ohio from 1992-1998. He was also a USA Wrestling member coach during those years. He was named SWOWCA Coach of the Year in 1995. Other activities included managing the Iowa Olympic Festival 2000, facilitating the 2000 IWIM Annual Celebrity Golf Tournament and coordinating several wrestling clinics in the Midwest. He also co-produced United Way television commercials featuring Olympic wrestlers Dan Gable, Tom Brands and Terry Brands.
USA Wrestling is still accepting applications for its Communications Editorial Coordinator and its Marketing Coordinator positions, of which one of the positions will be filled after the Sydney Games.
Gibson is a native of Cincinnati, Ohio.
