Fresno, Calif. – March 23, 2011 – California USA Wrestling hosted two record-breaking state championship tournaments over consecutive weekends in March. The tournaments set a California USA Wrestling record for the number of competing athletes and for fan attendance. 

The Freshmen and Sophomore Boys Folkstyle State Tournament and Girls High School Folkstyle State Tournament took place over the weekend of March 11-13. The annual Kids Folkstyle State Championship tournament was held March 18-20. 

The tournaments drew over 2,000 athletes and 10,000 spectators from California over two consecutive weekends; a substantial number when considering the economic impact of 10,000 individuals on a state with a struggling economy. 

Sponsors of the popular non-profit wrestling association were extremely pleased with the turnout. 

Fernando Serratos with Clinch Gear commented on their product booth at the event, “The interest in our product was encouraging, our sales were impressive and we made quite a few promising business contacts over both weekends.” Serratos continued, “We will continue to sponsor California USA Wrestling as it is a great organization for kids and offers valuable marketing opportunities for our company.” 

Supporters and fans of California USA Wrestling were also pleased with the event. The tournament was well organized from the Friday night weigh-ins to the Sunday finals with exciting and competitive matches. Athletes, coaches, fans and California USA Wrestling executives agreed that the two successful events were excellent springboards to the next round of tournaments. 

Duane Morgan, California USA Wrestling’s state chairman had this to say, “As a state organization we will continue to provide a quality wrestling events, using improved technologies to allow the Wrestlers to compete at their highest levels.”
