Cornell sophomore Kyle Dake and Lehigh junior Zach Rey have been named co-Wrestlers of the Year by the EIWA head coaches.
Dake, wrestling at 149 pounds, won his second NCAA title at the NCAA Championships, after winning at 141 a year ago. The only point scored against him in five bouts was on a technical violation in his finals bout against Frank Molinaro of Penn State, who he defeated 8-1 in the title bout.
Earlier, he was runnerup at the EIWA Championships and champion at the Southern Scuffle. He ends the season with a record of 31-2.
Rey, a heavyweight who placed third a year ago, avenged a defeat to Ryan Flores of American in the title bout, winning 2-1 on a riding time point. He did not give up a takedown all season.
Earlier, he was EIWA runnerup and Midlands champion and finishes the season with a record of 34-1.
Lehigh freshman Stephen Dutton has been named EIWA Freshman of the Year by the EIWA head coaches. Dutton qualified for the NCAA tournament by placing fourth at 141 at the EIWA Championships.
He lost his opening bout against the #5 seed, but won three consecutive bouts in the consolations, including 7-6 over Tyler Nauman of Pittsburgh, the #7 seed. He missed All-American status by one bout.
Earlier, he placed eighth at the Midlands Championships. He finishes the season with a 23-14 record, which includes seven major decisions.
