Hodge, Bisek win bronze medals at Hungarian Golden Grand Prix

SZOMBATHELY, Hungary – Two U.S. Greco-Roman wrestlers won bronze medals at the highly competitive Hungarian Golden Grand Prix on Saturday and Sunday.

Capturing bronze medals were Jermaine Hodge (Colorado Springs, Colo./U.S. Army) at 55 kg/121 lbs. and Andy Bisek (Colorado Springs, Colo./Minnesota Storm) at 74 kg/163 lbs.

Hodge went 3-1 in the tournament on Sunday, including a victory over Perica Dimitrijevic of Serbia in the bronze-medal match.

Hodge, currently ranked No. 2 in the USA, opened with two wins, stopping Csongor Kimpli of Hungary and Ivan Lizatovic of Croatia. In the semifinals, he lost to eventual silver medalist Marat Karishalov of Kazakhstan.

Bisek had an impressive 4-1 record on Saturday, defeating Maxat Yerezhepov of Kazakhstan in the bronze-medal bout. 

He opened with a victory over Saverio Scaramuzzi of Italy, then was defeated in the second round by eventual silver medalist Kolya Daragan of Ukraine.

Bisek won three straight in the wrestlebacks to claim the bronze. He defeated Anders Halback of Sweden, then received a default win from Neven Zugaj of Croatia.

Bisek is currently ranked No. 3 on Greco-Roman Team USA.

Placing fifth after losing bronze-medal bouts were Glenn Garrison (Colorado Springs, Colo./U.S. Army) at 66 kg/145.5 lbs. and Robbie Smith (Colorado Springs, Colo./New York AC) at 96 kg/211.5 lbs. Both finished with 2-2 records

Garrison opened with a win over Zoltan Szakolczi of Hungary then a loss to eventual runner-up Hiroyuki Shimizu of Japan. After beating Richard Rigo of Slovakia in the repechage, he was beaten in a bronze-medal bout by Balint Korpasi of Hungary.

Smith opened with a win over Joszef Nagy of Hungary, then lost his second round bout to eventual runner-up Evgeny Achkasov of Uzbekistan. In the repechage round, he beat fellow American R.C. Johnson. In the bronze-medal bout, he lost to Gyorgy Rizmajer of Hungary.
