MINSK, Belarus – Tervel Dlagnev (Columbus, Ohio/Sunkist Kids) won a bronze medal at 120 kg/264.5 lbs. on the final day of the men’s freestyle competition at the Alexander Medved International on Saturday.

Dlagnev, a 2009 World bronze medalist, went 3-1 for the day, including a victory of Rasul Kadyrov of Russia.

He opened with wins over Dmitrijs Mihailovs of Latvia and Pasha Otarchiev of Russia. His only loss came in the semifinals, when he was defeated by 2008 Olympic bronze medalist Marid Mutalimov of Kazakhstan.

“Tervel has been our steady performer and as usual got a medal for his country. I bet if you asked him about his tournament he would tell you how disappointed he is. He was dominant today but made one mistake and it cost him. Knowing Tervel this will make him better,” said National Freestyle Coach Zeke Jones.

Four other U.S. men’s freestylers competed on Saturday, but none qualified for a medal match.

2010 U.S. World Team member J.D. Bergman (Columbus, Ohio/New York AC) won his first two bouts at 96 kg/211.5 lbs. on Saturday, beating Vratislav Cholat of the Czech Republic and Mindaugas Rumbutis of Lithuania. He fell in the third round to Magomed Musaev of Russia, and when Musaev did not qualify for the finals, Bergman was not eligible for the repechage rounds.

The USA won four men’s freestyle medals during the two-day event. The team had three medals on Friday. Capturing a gold medal at 60 kg/132 lbs. was Shawn Bunch (Columbus, Ohio/Gator WC). Claiming a silver medal at 55 kg/121 lbs. was Sam Hazewinkel (Norman, Okla./Sunkist Kids). Dustin Schlatter (Minneapolis, Minn./Minnesota Storm), won a bronze medal at 74 kg/163 lbs.
