It has been a February to remember for the Ohio Regional Training Center. Last week the organization learned that seven wrestlers training with them were ranked in the top ten of their weight by USA Wrestling.
This week the good news continued when they found out that they would receive a $100,000.00 donation from a supporter that only asked to remain anonymous.
“Gifts such us these will enable the Olympic dream to live in Columbus long after we are gone,†stated Ohio RTC founder Tommy Rowlands. “We are humbled by this persons unwavering support and it inspires each of us to make him proud in London.â€
The Ohio Regional Training Center is a nonprofit group based in Columbus, Ohio that was created to support wrestlers training for the Olympics and to promote the growth of freestyle wrestling across the United States. The organization provides financial support to their wrestlers, elite coaching, top-notch facilities, and a unique freestyle training environment.
“The funds we received from this donation will be placed into an endowment that will go directly towards supporting our athlete stipends,†offered Rowlands when asked how the money would be used. “With this type of support we are certain that the Ohio RTC will continue to grow as a reliable and sustainable, world class training environment.â€
The Ohio Regional Training Center has two former Olympians on their coaching staff, head coach Lou Rosselli and assistant coach Plamen Paskalev. They are directly responsible for six wrestlers training in Columbus full-time for international competition and work with a number of college wrestlers throughout the year.
Ranked wrestlers currently training with the Ohio RTC include: Logan Stieber (#5 at 55kg), Shawn Bunch (#2 at 60kg), Reece Humphrey (#3 at 60kg), James Yonushonis (#9 at 84kg), JD Bergman (#1 at 96kg), Tervel Dlagnev (#2 at 120kg), and Tommy Rowlands (#3 at 120 kg).
