ULAN UDE, Russia – U.S. wrestlers Andy Hrovat (Cleveland, Ohio (New York AC) and Raymond Jordan (Tempe, Ariz./Sunkist Kids) met in the finals at 84 kg/185 lbs. at Buryatia Republic President’s Cup on Saturday.
Hrovat, a 2008 Olympian and 2006 U.S. World Team member, won the bout to claim the gold, with Jordan taking the silver.
Hrovat had a 4-0 record for the tournament, and Jordan went 3-1. They were the only Americans competing on Saturday.
Since September, Hrovat has been living and training in Vladikavkaz, Russia, working out with many of the top wrestlers from Russia and surrounding national teams.
“It was a good first day in Ulan Ude,†said National Freestyle Coach Zeke Jones. “Our men looked sharp.â€
Four other U.S. wrestlers will compete on Sunday. Updated results from Saturday and Sunday pairings will be posted when available.
