For the past 11 years, USA Wrestling has run the Colorado Springs Metro Championships for the Colorado Springs wrestling community.
Coronado won the tournament on Saturday night at Doherty High School, setting a tournament record with 314.5 points and crowning six champions. The Cougars put nine in the finals.
The field featured three state-ranked teams -- Coronado and Pine Creek in 5A and Discovery Canyon in 4A. Highlighting the tournament were three-time champions Josh Martinez of Pine Creek, Carter McElhany of Coronado, Nick Adams of Discovery Canyon and Jared Rieck of Coronado.
In the 11 year history of the event, only six wrestlers had won three titles. That elite group grew by four over the weekend.
