Oklahoma City's Kidd Gomez named NAIA Wrestler of the Week

Kidd Gomez of Oklahoma City has been named the NAIA National Wrestler of the Week, the national office announced Wednesday. Gomez was selected based on his performances from Jan. 10 - 16.

Gomez scored bonus points in three of four matches wrestled, including two major decisions en route to the 125-pound title at the Cumberland (Tenn.) Open on Jan. 16. He posted a 10-2 major decision over Larone Madison of Cumberlands (Ky.) to open the event and followed with a 19-9 major decision against Lindsey Wilson's (Ky.) Andy Lenz. Gomez notched a 6-1 decision over Campbellsville's (Ky.) Jarvis Elam in the championship bout.

In dual action against Baker (Kan.) on Jan. 12, the sophomore registered his fourth pin of the season with a 6:05 stick of Allen Gassman.

The Noble, Okla., is currently ranked 10th at 125 pounds and owns a 14-9 record. Of those 14 wins, eight have resulted in bonus points (four pins, four major decisions).

The next Wrestler of the Week announcement will be on Jan. 26.
