The Amphitheater wrestling team, which won the Catalina Invitational last weekend, will take its first-place trophy from the meet to Mesa Verde Elementary School today and present it to principal Foster Hepler in honor of Christina-Taylor Green, a 9-year-old who also was killed in Saturday's incident.
Christina-Taylor was a third-grader at Mesa Verde, which is part of the Amphi district.
"Even if it was a school that wasn't in our district, we'd try to do something," coach Sam Portillo said. "We found out about everything during the meet on Saturday, and we were all aware of it. I asked them (Monday) if they wanted to present the trophy to her school and they were like, 'Heck yeah, let's do it, Coach.'
"It's a really small token to let them know we were thinking about them during the weekend."
