Holm wins silver, Tellgren, Lara take bronzes at Haavisto Cup in Finland

ILMAJOKI, Finland – Jordan Holm (Minneapolis, Minn./Minnesota Storm) won a silver medal at 84 kg/185 lbs., the top U.S. performance at the Haavisto Cup of Greco-Roman on Saturday.

Holm was defeated in the championship match by Anton Bablo-Malyy of Ukraine, 0-2, 2-0, 0-3/ 

He won three straight bouts to qualify for the finals, stopping Alo Toom of Estonia along with Petri Luoma an Jonne Ukkola of Finland.

Winning bronze medals were Paul Tellgren (Anoka, Minn./Minnesota Storm) at 55 kg/121 lbs. and Marco Lara, Colorado Springs, Colo. (U.S. Army) at 60 kg/132 lbs.

Tellgren went 1-2 in a four-athlete round robin. Lara finished with a 1-1 record.

“The team did a good job of stepping it up today by placing five wrestlers and taking three medals,” said U.S. coach Dale Oliver. “We gained valuable match experience on this tour and all the guys improved.”

The United States was third in the team standings, behind champion Ukraine and runner-up Russia.
