Ian Paddock named Big Ten Wrestler of the Week

Ian Paddock earns the first Big Ten weekly honor of the 2010-11 season after taking the 133-pound title at the Buffalo Open last weekend. Paddock went 4-0 at the tournament, outscoring his opponents by a 35-6 margin en route to the title. The 12th-ranked sophomore defeated Bloomsburg's Jeremiah Biddle by a 17-2 technical fall in the opening round, following with a 2-0 overtime decision over Edinboro's Matthew Hasbrouck. He then took a 10-4 decision against Edinboro's Mitchell Port to advance to the finals, where he defeated 14th-ranked Kevin Smith of Buffalo, 6-0, to earn the title.

Va. Tech's Devin Carter named ACC Wrestler of the Week By Steve Phillips Atlantic Coast Conference Virginia Tech 133-pound true freshman Devin Carter has been named the first Atlantic Coast Conference Wrestler of the Week of the 2010-11 season after winning the first six matches of his collegiate career, including a major decision over the nation'! s No. 8-ranked wrestler in his weight class. Carter, a native of Christiansburg, Va., opened with a 15-0 technical fall over Iowa State's Ben Cash in the Hokies narrow 17-16 loss to No. 25 Iowa State in last Friday's dual meet. Carter then claimed the 133-pound title in Sunday's Hokie Open at Salem, Va., with an impressive sweep of his five matches. Carter's victories included wins over ACC opponents Pat Owens (10-5) and Mike Rappo of North Carolina (injury default), and a pin of Old Dominion's Justin LaValle in 2:32. Carter capped his tournament showing with a dominating major decision over Old Dominion's eighth-ranked Kyle Hutter in the title match.
Carl Broghammer named NSIC Wrestler of the Week By Nick Kornder Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Carl Broghammer (197 LBS, R-Fr., Manchester, Iowa / West Delaware HS) Upper Iowa Carl Broghammer made the most of his first varsity action in a Peacock singlet in Dubuque, Iowa on Saturday at the Loras Open as he won the individual title at 197 pounds. Broghammer posted a 3-0 record which included two wins by fall. The two falls came in his first two matches and both came in the second period. In his finals match, Broghammer won in sudden victory, 3-1, over Jackson Hein of Wisconsin.
