FLASH: Fulp-Allen, Maroulis, Bernard reach Hargobind women’s finals

BURNABY, Canada – Three U.S. women wrestlers have reached the gold-medal finals of the Hargobind International, after winning their semifinal bouts on Friday.
The first day of the women’s freestyle competition was held at Simon Fraser Univ. in Burnaby, B.C., Canada.
The gold-medal finalists in the four Olympic weight classes will be determined on Friday, and will compete for the title on Saturday.
At 48 kg/105.5 lbs., Sara Fulp-Allen (Colorado Springs, Colo./New York AC) will face Canadian Lindsay Prickett (Guelph WC) in the championship finals.
Fulp-Allen defeated Canadian wrestlers Alana King and Ashley McKilligan on the way to reaching the finals.
At 55 kg/121 lbs., Helen Maroulis (Rockville, Md./New York AC) will face Canadian Jazzi Barker in the finals.
To reach the finals, Maroulis defeated Canadians Andrea Ross and Brittany Laverdure. Maroulis attends Simon Fraser Univ. in Canada.
At 72 kg/158.5 lbs., Ali Bernard (New Ulm, Minn./Bears) is in the final round-robin match with an undefeated record. She will face Canadian Erica Wiebe in the finals on Saturday.
Bernard had wins against Canadians Justina Distasio, Vanessa Wilson and Molly Bouchard on Friday. Bernard competed in college in Canada, winning five CIS Canadian national titles, competing for the Univ. of Regina then the Univ. of Alberta.
U.S. wrestlers who won bronze medals on Friday included Victoria Anthony (Huntington Beach, Calif./New York AC) at 48 kg/105.5 lbs. and Erin Clodgo, Colorado Springs, Colo. (Sunkist Kids) at 67 kg/147.5 lbs.
The three non-Olympic divisions were completed on Friday. No U.S. wrestlers won gold medals in these divisions. Champions in the non-Olympic weights were Canadians Jessica McDonald at 51 kg/112.25 lbs., Amanda Gerhardt at 59 kg/130 lbs., Megan Buydens at 67 kg/147.5 lbs. and Hillary Greening at 82 kg/180.5 lbs.
