Citadel Wrestling Adds Three More State Champions to Squad

CHARLESTON, SC -- The Citadel wrestling coach Rob Hjerling has announced that Jeff Taylor of Honea Path, SC, Mike Martinez of Temple Terrace, FL, and Ivan Enriquez of Coral Gables, FL, have committed to the Bulldogs. Taylor, who will wrestle as a heavy weight, completed his high school career with two state championships, one in 1999 as a sophomore at 189-pound and the other this past season as a senior at 215-pounds. He also placed third in the state championship his junior campaign at 189 pounds. Taylor posted a 120-13 won-loss record over his career. Of note, 95 of the 120 wins he compiled in his four years at Belton-Honea Path High were by fall. He graduated with a 3.3 GPA and plans on majoring in criminal justice. Martinez, who recorded a 117-25 mark over his high school career at Tampa Catholic, placed twice in the Florida state championships. He won the 2000 Florida state title in the 145-pound weight class and placed fourth as a senior, also at 145-pounds. Martinez, who will wrestle at 141-pounds, plans to be a pre-med major. Enriquez, a recent graduate of Belen Jesuit High School, placed twice at the Florida state championships. He won the championship in 2001 as a 130-pounder and placed fourth last season at 119-pounds. Enriquez finished his career with 135 wins and only 13 losses. He will wrestle as a 133-pounder. "All three of these young men are very talented and will compete for a starting position immediately," said Hjerling. "We are very excited to add these three successful and experienced wrestlers to our roster this fall." Taylor, Martinez and Enirquez join Brad Ragan of Venice, FL, Ryan McClester of Lugoff, SC, Sean Paez of Raleigh, NC, Chris Moore of Waldorf, MD, Jesse Udell of Mesa, AZ, and Ty Christensen of Columbus, NE as the members of the 2001 Bulldogs1 wrestling class.
