You can’t get much different when it comes to background when looking at the 285-pound match at the 2010 NWCA All-Star Classic presented by the Marines.

On one side of the mat will be Central Michigan’s Jarod Trice, a junior from the rough suburb of Highland Park, outside of Detroit, Mich. On the other, will be Chechen born-Moscow bred Alan Gelogaev of Oklahoma State.

Growing up wrestling nearly 5,000 miles apart, the two will face off for the first time on November 21 at Selland Arena in Fresno, Calif.

Trice, an All-American last year for Tom Borrelli’s Chippewas, spent the summer training in freestyle and Greco-Roman, winning both styles at the University Nationals. Gelogaev, or “Z” as he’s called by pretty much everyone, trained in his more comfortable freestyle, was a workout partner for the U.S. World Team and beefed up from 197 pounds, where he was an All-American last year in his first full collegiate season.

Fans shouldn’t expect a snoozer here, both wrestlers like to throw – a lot. Trice went 27-5 en route to an eighth-place finish at the 2010 NCAA Division I Championships. Trice has the throw in his arsenal if needed, becoming a more patient wrestler under Borrelli’s tutelage. 

Gelogaev’s throws are there, and he uses them. Adapting to American folkstyle wrestling, the Cowboy junior went 30-9 with eight falls at 197 pounds and finished seventh at the NCAA Championships. He’ll be moving up to heavyweight for the 2010-11 season.

The 45th Annual NWCA All-Star Classic Presented by The Marines will be held at the Selland Arena in Fresno, California on Sunday, November 21, 2010.
