Jake Calhoun, a two-time national qualifier at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, has joined the Gettysburg College athletics department as an assistant with both the Bullets wrestling program and equipment room.

Calhoun will split duties between helping Head Coach Andy Vogel oversee Gettysburg’s NCAA Division III wrestling program and aiding Equipment Manager Kelly Jones in the day-to-day operation of the department’s equipment room in 2010-11.

Calhoun came to Gettysburg following an outstanding collegiate career at Stevens Point, where he earned bids to the national tournament in both 2007 and 2008. He earned All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference accolades in three of his four seasons, including winning the 125-pound title in 2007. Calhoun concluded his career by helping the Pointers finish 10th at the 2008 NCAA Championships.

After graduating from Stevens Point with a degree in physical education, Calhoun returned to his alma mater as a volunteer assistant coach for the 2009-10 season. The Stevens Point native attended Stevens Point High School where he was a state place-winner in wrestling and graduated with school records for wins and pins.

Calhoun and the Bullets recently started practicing for the fast-approaching season. They have just a month before the start of the new campaign, which officially kicks off on Nov. 6 with the King’s College Monarch Invitational.
