USA Wrestling has organized three different Olympic Development Camps for female wrestlers during the start of the new season, located in strategic locations across the nation.

These camps will be held at U.S. Olympic Training Center (USOTC) locations in New York, California and Colorado.

The purpose of the camps are to bring USA’s top young athletes up to speed with the techniques that the USA Wrestling National Women’s Staff feels is important for future success in the sport on the national and international levels.

Olympic Development Camp #1 - Pre-season East Coast Training Camp
Date: October 20-24, 2010 at the USOTC in Lake Placid, N.Y.
Application Deadline: October 6, 2010

Olympic Development Camp #2 - Pre-season West Coast Training Camp
Date: November 10-15, 2010 at the USOTC in Chula Vista, Calif.
Application: Deadline: October 27, 2010

Olympic Development Camp #3 - Winter National Camp
Date: January 5-9, 2011 at the USOTC in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Application Deadline: December 14, 2010

Camps are designed for elite “funded” young athletes. Some of the camps will be conducted along side with our Senior National Team training camps. Wrestlers must meet at least one of the following criteria in order to be considered a “Funded Access Athlete” to the U.S. Olympic Training Centers.

Funded Access Criteria:
1. Body Bar FILA Junior Nationals (17-20 years old) - Top 6 per weight class
2. Body Bar FILA Cadet Nationals (15-17 years old) - Top 4 per weight class
3. Jr. Nationals (9-12 grade) - Top 6 per weight class
4. USA Wrestling High School Folkstyle Nationals - Top 4 per weight class
(Placing at USGWA Nationals is NOT a criteria for funded access).

“It is our hope that we can attract each athlete to most of the camps,” said Izzy Izboinkov, USA Wrestling’s Assistant National Women’s Coach. “We feel that if we can be in contact with these wrestlers 3-4 times throughout the year, we are going to achieve great results.”

There will be a tiered cost for the camps. The following is a price list for funded athletes depending on the number of camps they attend.

1 camp – 3 camps: $100.00
4 camps- 8 camps - $ 75.00
8 camps – 10 camps - $50.00
Finalists from FILA Juniors, FILA Cadets and Fargo Junior Nationals are at half price.

Fees for all camps will be collected at the first day of the camp. Due to possible cancellations of the camps for various reasons, money is not collected in advance.

Non-funded wrestlers are also encouraged to attend these camps. If athletes are not in funded access group but still wish to attend the camp the price for all of the above camps is $45.00 a day.

All athletes must register and complete all necessary paper work before attending any of the camps. There will be a $45.00 charge for staying other dates outside of the outlined camp dates.

There is a limited space at each camp, so spots in the camps are on a first-come, first-serve basis. There will be no price break beyond the deadlines.

Many of the wrestlers who are now finding success on the Senior level in women’s freestyle wrestling attended these Olympic Developmental Camps when they were younger. It has proven to be a very successful program in developing champion wrestlers.

Additional Olympic Developmental Camps will be held later in the season. Information on the additional camps will be available after the holiday season.
