West Virginia Wrestling signs 11 recruits

MORGANTOWN, W. Va. (May 17, 2001) - West Virginia wrestling coach Craig Turnbull today announced the signing of 11 recruits for the 2001-02 season.    Giving the coach signatures were Nate Lingle of Bellefonte, Pa., Seth Lisa of Northampton, Pa., Brian Palmer of Wyoming, Del., Adrian Belcarris of Oxen Hill, Md., Ricky LaForge of Oakland, N.J., Matt Lebe of Jeanette, Pa., Nathan Kendjorsky of Yorkville, Ohio, Jamie Muir of Ronan, Mont., Zach Leathers of Unionville, Pa., Ryan Wilman of Powder Springs, Ga., and Casey Brewster of Nashville, Tenn.    Lingle, of Bellefonte High, finished sixth at the Pennsylvania state championships in the 125 pound weight class. He was also rated as one of the top four wrestlers in the state during his senior season in that weight class. He is projected to wrestle at either the 125 or 133 at WVU.    Lisa, of Northampton High, earned a second and third place finish at the Pennsylvania state championships during his prep career. He was also an individual champion at the "Beast of the East" meet and was rated as the second best wrestler in the 140 weight class prior to his senior season. Lisa is also ranked as one of the top four recruits in the state of Pennsylvania.    Palmer, of Caesar Rodney High, is a two-time Delaware state champion and also finished as a runner-up in the state. He also led his high school to its first dual meet state championship and was named to the all-Henlopen Athletic Conference first team.    Belcarris, of Oxen Hill High, finished his senior season with a 32-0 record. He won the south regional, the Marlyand state championship, and finished third nationally at 171 pounds. Belcarris also earned a runner-up finish in the state earlier in his prep career. He will either wrestle at 174 or 184 at WVU.    LaForge, of Indian Hills High, finished second at the high school national meet. He is also a New Jersey state champion, a four-time district and three-time regional champion. LaForge will either wrestle at 125 or 133 pounds.    Lebe, of Jeanette High, is a Pennsylvania state champion and also owns a runner-up and third place finish in the state tournament. He is a cadet national champion and was ranked as the second-best wrestler in the 171 pound weight class. WVU will look to have him wrestle at 165 pounds.    Kendjorsky, of Buckeye Local High, is a junior national champion wrestler. He is projected to wrestle in the 125 pound weight class at WVU.                Muir, of Ronan High, was twice the Montana state champion and twice a second runner-up in the state. He is projected to wrestle in either the 125 or 133 weight class.    Leathers, of Unionville High, is a southeast regional champion in Pennsylvania. He was also ranked as one of the top ten wrestlers in the state at 135 pounds.     Ryan Wilman is a transfer from Tennessee-Chattanoga. He is a two-time Georgia high school state champion, and will have four years of eligibility and will look to wrestle in the 184 pound weight class at WVU.    Brewster is a transfer from Edinboro. At Overton High, he was a two-time state champion and a four-time regional champion. He also finished sixth in the Reno Tournament of  Champions and was a two-time runner-up at Matside US Open. He will have three years of eligibility left at WVU.     "Overall, I think this is a very good class," Turnbull says. "Our recruiting class last year was ranked as one of the top five in the nation and we wanted to put together another quality class that would put us in position to do something very special. I think we did that."
