MOSCOW, Russia – Past World silver medalists Mike Zadick (Solon, Iowa/Gator WC) and Jake Herbert (Evanston, Ill./New York AC) are among the three U.S. wrestlers who will compete on the sixth day at the World Wrestling Championships on Saturday

Zadick, Herbert and J.D. Bergman (Columbus, Ohio/New York AC) have weighed in and received their draws

Zadick, a 2006 World silver medalist and 2008 Olympian, faces Seung-Chul Lee of Korea in the opening round at 60 kg/132 lbs. Lee was third in the 2010 Asian Championships.

“Mike Zadick is an experienced veteran. He’s been here. It is up to Mike Zadick to start out of the gate quickly. He can get his body feeling good and he is ready for battle. Destiny is in Mike’s hands,” said National Freestyle Coach Zeke Jones.

Herbert, a 2009 World silver medalist, will wrestle Reineri Salas of Cuba in the opening round at 84 kg/185 lbs. Salas is a three-time Pan American champion and placed eighth in the World Championships in 2009. Salas defeated Herbert in the finals of the 2010 Cerro Pelado Tournament held in Cuba in February.

“What everybody knows about Jake is that at the season ending tournament, the last tournament of the year, Jake always performs well,” said Jones. “This guy kicked his butt back in February. Jake Herbert in September is much better than in February. We will see when he gets on the mat and hooks it up.”

Bergman, competing in his first World Championships at 96 kg/211.5 lbs., has drawn Farkhad Anakalov of Tajikistan in his first match. Anakalov was fifth in the 2010 Asian Championships.

“J.D. is the most complete technical freestyle wrestler on the team,” said Jones. “You look into J.D.’s eyes; this is a dream for him. When it is time to tighten down, he will be a force when he gets out there.”

Jones says that a strong start will give the athletes momentum and confidence.

“Fast start, finish strong. If America does that, we will be fine,” said Jones.
