NATHAN McMILLIN OF Mt. Zion, Illinois --- champion athlete, gifted scholar and worthy citizen - is one of the 2001 regional winners of the Dave Schultz High School Excellence Award given by the National Wrestling Hall of Fame. This award is presented annually to five regional winners and is based equally on outstanding wrestling achievement, scholastic achievement and citizenship. One national winner will be selected from these five regions. Nathan will attend the National Wrestling Hall of Fame honors banquet in Stillwater, Oklahoma, on June 2, where the national winner will be announced. Nathan McMillin of Mt. Zion High School will graduate with a 4.165 GPA and is a member of the National Honor Society, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Medics, and Principal's Advisory Council. He is a four year Mt. Zion High School Academic Excellence Award Winner and was named to the Academic All-State Team and the NHSCA Academic All-American Team. McMillin was awarded the Lt. Governor's Award for Athletic Excellence and was chosen to present awards at the 2001 Illinois Kids Wrestling Federation Tournament. McMillin is a two-time Illinois State Wrestling Champion, and holds the state record for single season takedowns with 381. He was named All Area Wrestler of the year two times. He was an NHSCA National Champion and Cadet Freestyle All-American. McMillin is also a three year letter winner in football and led his conference championship team in scoring with 10 touchdowns. McMillin not only excels in academics and athletics, but is an outstanding citizen. He is a volunteer coach for the Mt. Zion Youth Wrestling Club and volunteers through Fellowship of Christian Athletes to help with Special Olympics. He was honored as a Wendy's High School Heisman Candidate. There are a total of five regional winners for the Dave Schultz High School Excellence Award. TheMat.com will announce a new winner each day this week. The national winner of the Dave Schultz High School Excellence Award will be presented during the Hall of Fame's Honors Weekend in Stillwater, Okla. June 1-2.
