Zaurbek Sokhiev of Uzbekistan broke through to win a World freestyle title last year at 84 kg/185 lbs. after previously winning two bronze medals in this event.

Sokhiev edged American Jake Herbert in the finals of the 2009 World Championships in Herning, Denmark.

Herbert is in his first full season of wrestling freestyle, and has looked strong. He placed second in the recent Heydar Aliyev Golden Grand Prix in Azerbaijan. Look for Herbert to make a run at the World title this year in Moscow, Russia.

Ibragim Aldatov of Ukraine and Sharif Sharipov of Azerbaijan are the returning World bronze medalists. Sharipov placed second in the 2010 European Championships and third in the Heydar Aliyev event.

Herbert beat Sharipov in a dual meet last month in Azerbaijan.

Russia’s Soslan Ktsoev won the European Championships in 2009 and the Russian Nationals in 2010. Ktsoev is listed as Russia’s entrant for the Worlds.

Jousop Abdulsalomov of Tajikistan placed fifth in the World in 2009.
