U.S. team to compete in Veterans Worlds Greco-Roman Championships in Serbia, August 13-15

The United States will send an experienced group of athletes to compete in the Veterans World greco-Roman Championships at the SUMICE Arena in Belgrade, Serbia, August 13-15.

Veterans are athletes who are 35 years old and above. Competition will be in five age categories.

The team features a pair of past Veterans Greco-Roman World champions, Ronald Hughes of Hollister, Calif. (Div. C, 69 kg) and Valentin Kalika of Laguna Niguel, Calif. (Div. D, 69 kg). Kalika won his gold medal last year.

Besides Kalika, two Veterans World medalists from last year are on the U.S. team again, silver medalist James Schartner of Frederick, Md. (Div. E, 58 kg) and bronze medalist Chris Brown of Boyds, Md. (Div. D, 76 kg).

Athletes who won 2010 U.S. Veterans National Greco-Roman titles who will be on the team include Brown, Schartner and Stephen Contarino of Palmetto, Fla. (Div. E., 85 kg).

Brown is also serving as Team Leader for the group.
