Justin Ruiz receives his bronze medal at 96 kg at the Pytlasinski International in Poland RACIBORZ, Poland – Justin Ruiz (Boise, Idaho/New Yorh AC) won a bronze medal at 96 kg/211.5 pounds at the respected Pytlasinski International Tournament on Saturday. Ruiz, a 2005 World bronze medalist, defeated Artur Shakhbanov of Russia for a bronze medal, 2-0, 1-0. "Justin Ruiz wrestled like a warrior against his final Russian opponent. In a very physical match, Justin out fought and out scored the Russian in every situation. He countered the Russian's lift from mid-air to win the first period and out conditioned him in the second period," said National Greco-Roman coach Steve Fraser. Ruiz opened with victories against Dimitry Timchenko of Ukraine and Kaloyan Dinchev of Bulgaria. He was defeated in the semifinals by Nikita Melnikov of Russia. The three other U.S. wrestlers who compete on Sunday were defeated and did not medal: Spenser Mango (St. Louis, Mo./New York AC) at 60 kg/132 lbs., Jeremiah Davis (Colorado Springs, Colo./U.S. Army) at 60 kg/132 lbs. and Jake Fisher (Boise, Idaho/New York AC) at 74 kg/163 lbs. Mango finished eighth in his division in the final individual standings. This was a very strong competition, which many nations use a tuneup for the World Championships, which will be held in Moscow, Russia in September. The 2010 U.S. Greco-Roman World Team entered the event as part of its preparation for the World Championships. The U.S. finished with two medalists, as Dremiel Byers (Colorado Springs, Colo./U.S. Army) claimed the gold medal at 120 kg/264.5 lbs. on Saturday. "As a team we need to sharpen our pummelling and fighting skills. This is usually a strength of ours. However, today and yesterday, in most of the matches that we lost, we got out pummeled and out fought. This sprinting/fighting issue will be a focus of ours in the weeks leading up to the Worlds,†said Fraser. Note: Complete medal round results will be posted when available.
