Jim Savage, a consultant for Franklin Covey, will be the featured presenter for a popular time management seminar, during the 2001 Amateur Wrestling Alliance (AWA) Convention.     The convention is scheduled for August 8-11 in Chicago, Ill. The event will be held at the Sheraton Inn North Shore, located just 17 miles from O'Hare airport and 24 miles from downtown Chicago. The Amateur Wrestling Alliance includes three partner organizations: the National Wrestling Coaches Association, USA Wrestling and the National Wrestling Hall of Fame and Museum.    Savage has made a career enthusiastically helping people improve their quality of life through teaching What Matters Most and What Matters Most for the Palm. His seminar participants receive a powerful learning experience. They appreciate his sincere, caring manner balanced by  an entertaining sense of humor.     He spent a year and a half teaching TimeQuest at Walt Disney World's Disney Institute and had taught internationally in Switzerland, Italy, Germany and France. Jim's unique and diverse background includes time spent as a high school teacher, counselor, administrator, athletic director, college football coach, and scout and special assignments coach for the Washington Redskins professional football team.     He spent 12 years as senior vice president and publisher for the Zig Zigler Corporation where he trained in every state in the U.S. as well as teaching internationally. Before becoming a training consultant, he managed one of Franklin Covey's retail stores for two years. Jim received a degree in education from Louisiana State University and studied psychology at the University of Southwestern Louisiana. Jim is active as a teacher in his church and enjoys golf, softball, guitar, computers, and his grandchildren. He and his wife, Bibby, live in Kingwood, Texas. They have four children.    "My passion is empowering people to feel better about who they are, what they are doing, and the way they are doing it!," said Savage.    The AWA convention offers coaches and other wrestling leaders an opportunity to improve professionally, while net-working with their peers.     Other featured presentations are technique clinics, workshops, coaching education programs and numerous social activities.  Among the workshop topics are the latest from the NCAA, a rules certification clinic, an internet discussion and a Title IX update session.     There will be many sessions geared specifically to scholastic coaches, helping them to improve their programs and help their athletes to succeed.     "The convention is the perfect opportunity for us to work together and maximize the opportunities to build the sport," said Mike Moyer, Executive Director of the NWCA.    The featured clinicians include 1996 Olympic gold medalist Tom Brands, now an assistant coach for the Univ. of Iowa. Brands, a 1993 World Champion, has been named NWCA College Assistant Coach of the Year.    USA Wrestling Freestyle Resident Coach and Women's Head Coach Mike Duroe is another featured clinician. Duroe helped lead the U.S. Women's team to the 1999 World title, and is currently training the U.S. Olympic Training Center freestyle resident athletes.    Iowa State head coach and 1992 Olympic Head Coach Bobby Douglas will also provide a clinic session. Douglas was a two-time Olympic athlete, and coached Arizona State to a NCAA team title in 1988. He was the 2000 NWCA College Coach of the Year.    Old Dominion Head Coach and former Olympian Gray Simons, one of the nation's top clinicians, is also part of the technique program. Jack Holloway, the head coach at William Penn High School in Delaware, will also teach. Holloway was the 2000 NWCA High School Coach of the Year. A trade fair will also be hosted, featuring the latest products and services within the wrestling community. Numerous exhibitors have displayed their wrestling products and services to the convention attendees. Convention breaks are taken in the Exhibitors Hall where refreshments are served and friendships renewed. The Exhibitor's Social is a relaxing and fun time for all.     Free time will also be scheduled, allowing participants to attend a Chicago Cubs major league baseball game at world-famous Wrigley Field.    The registration cost for the convention is $140 in advance, and $170 at the door. Additional luncheon and banquet tickets will be available for sale.
