BUDAPEST, Hungary - Ellis Coleman (Colorado Springs, Colo./New York AC) has qualified for a bronze medal match at 66 kg/145.5 lbs.,at the Junior World Championships at the Syma Arena.on Wednesday. He will face Renat Nigmatulin of Kazakhstan in his bronze-medal bout. Coleman lost his opening match to Chingiz Labazanov of Russia, 1-0, 1-2, 0-8. Two times in the match, Coleman used his spectacular move where he jumps over the opponent; however in both cases, he did not score points and on the second time, they gave points to the Russian. However, Coleman was pulled back into the repechage rounds, when Labazanov reached the gold medal finals. In his first repechage bout, Coleman defeated Sachino Davitaia of Georgia, 1-0, 2-2, 2-0. Coleman scored a point on a lift in the third period. The Georgians protested the call, and after review, the officials held up the call. Coleman received an additional point for the incorrect protest by Georgia. Just a few minutes later, Coleman faced Mohsen Jahangir Ghasemi of Iran in a back-and- forth match, which Coleman won 1-2, 1-0, 5-0. In the deciding third period, Coleman scored a point out of bounds which the Iranians protested. Coleman won the protest and received an additional point. In the final seconds, he hit a three-point throw to ice the victory. Coleman is currently ranked No. 3 on the Senior level in the United States. He is a U.S. Olympic Training Center resident athlete, originally from Illinois. The other three U.S. wrestlers lost preliminary bouts but did not qualify for the repechage rounds. Competing on his third U.S. Junior World Team was Ben Provisor (Stevens Point, Wis./Sunkist Kids/USOEC) at 84 kg/185 lbs. Provisor opened with a solid 0-1, 1-0, 1-0 victory over Azizbek Muradov of Uzbekistan. Provisor scored a takedown on a bodylock in the deciding third period. However, in the second round, Provisor dropped a two-period bout to Arsen Kakhabrisvili of Georgia, 1-2, 0-2. Kakhabrisvili scored a turn on the mat in the second period to close out the bout. Provisor was not eligible for the repechage when Kakhabrisvili lost in the semifinals to Kim of Korea. Jesse Thielke (Germantown, Wis./Ringers) lost his first match at 55 kg/121 lbs. to Haitham Mahmoud Fahmy of Egypt, 1-0, 0-6, 0-2. Fahmy was able to complete throws in the last two periods in order to get the win. Theilke was eliminated from the repechage when Fahmy lost to Iran’s Saman Abdouli in the next match. Thielke, a high school star in Wisconsin, was returning to the Junior World Championships for the second straight year. At 120 kg/264.5 lbs., Steve Andrus (Manhattan, Kansas/Michigan WC) was beaten by Kiril Hryschanka of Belarus in the opening match, 0-1, 0-6. Andrus, who attends Michigan State, was competing in his first Junior World Championships. Andrus was eliminated from the repechage when Hryschanka was defeated in the semifinals by David Oganysyan of Russia.
