Undefeated state champion to join Sooner fold NORMAN, Okla. - University of Oklahoma Head Wrestling Coach Jack Spates announced Monday that Yukon, Okla., product Chris Marler signed a national letter of intent to wrestle for the Sooners next season. Marler wrestled to a perfect 32-0 record last season and claimed the class 5A state championship at 152 pounds while competing a Yukon High School. He placed third at the state championships as a junior. For his career, Marler compiled a mark of 99-9. "We're all excited to welcome Chris Marler to the Sooner wrestling family," said Spates. "Being a state champion in Oklahoma is quite an accomplishment, but to go undefeated makes it even more impressive. By signing Chris, we will be adding to a strong contingent of Oklahoma wrestlers and expect him to vie for a starting position, after a redshirt year, at 149 or 157 pounds. Chris is also an outstanding student and represents the type of young man we are looking for at Oklahoma." Marler joins fellow Oklahoma state champions Beau DeArmon, Brandt Ward, Shane Kidd and Derrick Brown, who signed with the Sooners earlier this season.
