BUDAPEST, Hungary – All four U.S. Greco-Roman wrestlers competing on Wednesday at the Junior World Championships at the Syma Arena.on Wednesday lost in their preliminary rounds. Competing on his third U.S. Junior World Team was Ben Provisor (Stevens Point, Wis./Sunkist Kids/USOEC) at 84 kg/185 lbs. Provisor opened with a solid 0-1, 1-0, 1-0 victory over Azizbek Muradov of Uzbekistan. Provisor scored a takedown on a bodylock in the deciding third period. However, in the second round, Provisor dropped a two-period bout to Arsen Kakhabrisvili of Georgia, 1-2, 0-2. Kakhabrisvili scored a turn on the mat in the second period to close out the bout. Jesse Thielke (Germantown, Wis./Ringers) lost his first match at 55 kg/121 lbs. to Haitham Mahmoud Fahmy of Egypt, 1-0, 0-6, 0-2. Fahmy was able to complete throws in the last two periods in order to get the win. Thielke, a high school star in Wisconsin, was returning to the Junior World Championships for the second straight year. At 66 kg/145.5 lbs., Ellis Coleman (Colorado Springs, Colo./New York AC) lost his opening match to Chingiz Labazanov of Russia, 1-0, 1-2, 0-8. Two times in the match, Coleman used his spectacular move where he jumps over the opponent; however in both cases, he did not score points and on the second time, they gave points to the Russian. Coleman is currently ranked No. 3 on the Senior level in the United States. He is a U.S. Olympic Training Center resident athlete, originally from Illinois. At 120 kg/264.5 lbs., Steve Andrus (Manhattan, Kansas/Michigan WC) was beaten by Kiril Hryschanka of Belarus in the opening match, 0-1, 0-6. Andrus, who attends Michigan State, was competing in his first Junior World Championships. At this point, the preliminary rounds are not over, so we do not know if any of the Americans will qualify for the repechage rounds. TheMat.com will update this story when possible.
