BUDAPEST, Hungary – The final four U.S. Greco-Roman wrestlers at the Junior World Championships have weighed in and received their draws for Wednesday’s competition.
Competing on his third U.S. Junior World Team is Ben Provisor, Stevens Point, Wis. (Sunkist Kids/USOEC) at 84 kg/185 lbs. Provisor opens with Azizbek Muradov of Uzbekistan.
“Ben has a great chance to do very well. We are hoping that he wins this. He has a tough draw with Uzbekistan right away. If he does well in that first match, he can be in the medal hunt,†said USA Wrestling National Greco-Roman Developmental Coach Ike Anderson.â€
Returning to the Junior World Championships for the second straight year is high school star Jesse Thielke (Germantown, Wis./Ringers) at 55 kg/121 lbs. Thielke drew Haitham Mahmoud Fahmy of Egypt.
“He has been wrestling very well. His conditioning and his size in this weight class can come up big for him in the later rounds. He can be right in the medal chase,†said Anderson.
At 66 kg/145.5 lbs., Ellis Coleman, Colorado Springs, Colo. (New York AC) will face Chingiz Labazanov of Russia. Coleman is currently ranked No. 3 on the Senior level in the United States. He is a U.S. Olympic Training Center resident athlete.
“Ellis is in a big backet and is surrounded by tough countries. It will be interesting for him. Hopefully, we get him off to a good start. He is one we believe can do well and finish very high,†said Anderson.
Competing at 120 kg/264.5 lbs. is Steve Andrus (Manhattan, Kansas/Michigan WC) who drew Kiril Hryschanka of Belarus in the opening match. Andrus competes for Michigan State.
“Andrus is young, and a lot will depend on how he starts out. He is an athletic heavyweight, which could help him to do very well. If he stays out of trouble, and controls his opponents, he can win matches,†said Anderson.
