The U.S. Olympic Committee has announced its Twitter voting is now open for its June Male & Female Athletes of the Month. Fans are encouraged to vote and re-tweet the poll links. 

Representing USA Wrestling are Greco-Roman wrestler Jake Clark and women’s freestyle wrestler Alyssa Lampe. Both won gold medals at the 2010 World Team Trials in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and earned spots on the U.S. World Team which will compete in Moscow, Russia in September.

SportsMan of the Month for June 2010
Sport: Men’s Greco-Roman Wrestling
Athlete: Jake Clark
Position: 84 kg/185 lbs. in Greco-Roman wrestling

Clark won the 84 kg/185 lbs. title at the World Team Trials in Council Bluffs, Iowa on June 12. He qualifies to compete in the World Wrestling Championships, which will be held in Moscow, Russia in September. It will be Clark’s second Senior World Team, after making the 2006 U.S. World Team.

Clark defeated 2009 U.S. World Team member Chas Betts (St. Michael, Minn./Minnesota Storm) in the best-of-three Championship Series, two matches to none. Clark defeated Betts in the first match, 1-0, 2-0, then beat Betts in the second bout, 0-1, 1-0, 1-0. 

Clark needed three wins in the Challenge Tournament portion of the event earlier in the day to qualify for the finals series. He opened with a 3-0, 6-0 win over Mark Stenberg of the USOEC. In the second round, he beat veteran star Aaron Sieracki of the U.S. Army, 1-0, 1-0. In the third round, he stopped 2010 U.S. Open champion Cheney Haight of the New York AC, 2-0, 1-0, 1-0.

Clark has joined the U.S. Air Force this season and its wrestling team. He previously served in and competed for the U.S. Marine Corps.

Sport: Women’s Freestyle Wrestling
Athlete: Alyssa Lampe
Position: 48 kg/105.5 lbs. in women’s freestyle wrestling.

Lampe won the 48 kg/105.5 lbs. title at the World Team Trials in Council Bluffs, Iowa on June 12. She qualifies to compete in the World Wrestling Championships, which will be held in Moscow, Russia in September. It will be Lampe’s first Senior World Team. 

Lampe defeated 2008 World champion and 2008 Olympian Clarissa Chun (Colorado Springs, Colo./Sunkist Kids) in the best-of-three Championship Series, two matches to one. Lampe placed second behind Chun in the World Team Trials the last two years.

Chun won the first match of the series, 3-2, 1-0. Lampe came back in match two with a clutch 2-1, 4-1 victory. In the third and deciding match, Lampe stopped Chun in three periods, 1-0, 0-1, 3-1.

Lampe is a U.S. Olympic Training Center resident athlete. She was a 2010 U.S. Open champion. Lampe was also a 2010 University Nationals champion. She was a 2007 Junior World bronze medalist. Lampe is originally from Tomahawk, Wis.
