Veteran Jared Frayer is looking to break through and make his first World Team this season.

Second in the 2006 and 2009 U.S. World Team Trials at 66 kg/145.5 lbs., Frayer positioned himself for a trip to the World Championships by winning his first U.S. Open title last month in Cleveland.

He outlasted Josh Churella in three periods in the finals.

Frayer now advances to the best-of-3 final-round series for the 2010 World Team Trials on June 11-12 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Frayer will face the winner of the Challenge Tournament for the World Team spot.

Churella, who has made noticeable improvement this season, will be the No. 1 seed in the Challenge Tournament.

Past Olympian and World Team member Doug Schwab was third in the U.S. Open. Schwab recently took the Northern Iowa head coaching position. He said he plans to compete at the World Team Trials.

Past Iowa All-American Joe Johnston was third in the Open. Two-time NCAA champion Teyon Ware was fifth and three-time NCAA Division II champion Todd Meneely placed sixth.

Angel Cejudo, older brother of Olympic gold medalist Henry Cejudo, is back on the mat this season. Angel was seventh in the Open.

Two-time NCAA champion Brent Metcalf, second in the 2009 U.S. Open, will be a factor as well. He was selected as a wild card for the Trials.

Another wrestler to watch in this division may be 2007 Junior World champion Bubba Jenkins, who returned to the mat and won University Nationals last month in Akron, Ohio.

NCAA All-American Kyle Borshoff won the Northeast Regional to qualify. High school senior Dylan Ness, who has won numerous USA Wrestling age-group national titles, won the Northern Plains Regional to earn a spot in the Trials.

Top young prospect Corey Jantzen also received a wild card in this division.
